Academic

I completed my medical training and internship in JSS Medical College, Mysore. I trained in Orthopaedic Surgery at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. I went on for further intensive hands-on training in Trauma and arthroscopy at Al-Shifa Hospital, Perintalmanna. After clearing the National Board Exams (DNB) in the first attempt, I joined Apollo Speciality Hospital as a Registrar in 2004. Thereafter I was the Junior partner in Joint Reconstruction Group, Chennai (JRGC). I went independent soon continuing as a Hip Replacement Surgeon in Apollo Speciality Hospital.

Special Interest

I have a strong interest in Data Analysis and numbers have always fascinated me. Ed Tufte’s Beautiful Evidence is the kind of book that excites me. As part of a paper that I wrote for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery – British, I designed a database to collect and view data from patients who underwent joint replacement. But I realised the limitations of the project right away. I scourged the web to find a way out. Only OrthoWave came very close. It was clear that there was a need for a web based application to collect, assimilate and view data specifically designed for ortho surgeons and their patients. In the process of designing such an app, I managed to pick up a fair bit of ruby and rails programming. You are welcome to visit the project at github. By the way this website was designed using webflow and I am hosting it at AWS S3. The reason was to integrate the yeoman workflow and utilise grunt to keep the assets small.

Entrepreneur

It was not until I saw a school friend’s post on Facebook that I knew anything about entrepreneurship. Along with a colleague and his brother we made several trips to Bangalore from Chennai to attend the Founder Institute Programme. This led us to to founding the start up Check Health. Personal

I am happily married to the love of my life – Dr Archana Dutta Baruah. Life has taken quite a few turns recently. All I want to do, is come out strong in the end. There will be scars, and there will be pain. Like a teacher in school used to say – the fun is in the chase.
